Among by Fabio Barile interprets the coastline of Ostia Lido as an unstable threshold, where coastal urbanisation, erosion, and environmental transformations continuously redefine the landscape. Beach structures, exposed to the action of the sea and atmospheric agents, appear as precarious constructions shaped by cycles of maintenance, abandonment, and disintegration. Although focused on a specific stretch of coastline, the project considers erosion as a widespread condition of the contemporary landscape. Buildings dissolve and return to the land as dust, sand, fill materials, and artificial dunes; human constructions progressively lose their colours and geometries, everything yields, softens, and sediments. In the final sequence, images taken from a fixed viewpoint register minimal variations of light and reflection on the water’s surface. The sea thus becomes an unstable space for the registration of time, capable of simultaneously reflecting sky, atmosphere, and the transformation of matter.
